About Us

By training ourselves to become habitual readers-of-books, we reclaim our attention and grow our capacity to fruitfully use the digital tools we are surrounded by. By growing our contemplation, we are able to cultivate our soul.

By reading great stories and philosophy, we are re-forging our ties to the ancient cultures that form the roots of liberal democracy and a culture focused on the common good. The Reading Books Initiative serves adults who work in various professions.

In Search of Deeper Meaning

The reading seminars and retreats address two problems: We are starved of good stories. We are constantly fed shallow and sometimes destructive stories through advertising, social media, and the news.

We need to get back in touch with the Mythos, the core story of culture. It is also contained in the great religious and philosophical traditions throughout the world. Digital technology has hijacked our attention.
